If You Could...Design Your Own Tubes?

If you could make your own tubes and tobacco combination what would the name be? I have come up with a design that I will be sketching out in the next few days and post here. I have put a great deal of work into the design. Possibilities are endless! Look in the tobacco section for that part of the 'If You Could' series.

I'm not sure what a "tobacco combination" has to do with designing a tube (title of the thread), maybe I'm misunderstanding the question (did you mean more along the lines of "designing a premade?)? As far as designing a better tube though, that's simple: use a high quality rolling paper along with cotton filters. It's funny that noone's tried something along these lines yet, I'm sure there's plenty of people who would pay a little extra for a potentially less damaging tube, not to mention the neutrality.

I'm not sure what a "tobacco combination" has to do with designing a tube (title of the thread), maybe I'm misunderstanding the question (did you mean more along the lines of "designing a premade?)? As far as designing a better tube though, that's simple: use a high quality rolling paper along with cotton filters. It's funny that noone's tried something along these lines yet, I'm sure there's plenty of people who would pay a little extra for a potentially less damaging tube, not to mention the neutrality.

I suspect that cost and viability may be the issue with using cotton, not to mention there will still be the issue of fibers breaking off and finding their way into the lungs. Aside from the cost factor, there may be issues with cotton "gumming up" much more quickly than the synthetic fiber currently used.

All of that is just a guess, but I would think there are at least some valid reasons why cotton is not already used as a filtering fiber in cigarettes.

I mean like what Gambler, Top, Rave, Zig-Zag, Zen, etc. have. They have tube/tobacco combinations with the same name (i.e. Zen tubes and Zen tobacco) I meant for this to be a two part thread with the tube portion here and the tobacco portion in North American and other tobaccos. So what I'm saying is that the tubes and tobacco should have the same name on them.

My vote for the best example of that would be Ramback by D&R. This is one of the best tube/tobacco combos in RYO. Honestly I've never thought of this question before but am still interested in higher quality tubes, quality to match the papers available. Again, it seems to be one profitable area that no manufacturer has any interest in. I guess they don't think enough people would have the interest to justify the R&D and setup expenses.

Can't really happen until getting into cigarette filter/butt holders, (as someone already mentioned, too practically tight, at $2.25, to beat a couple hundred Ramback Elite), then things get interesting. What I'm doing is using filter "holders" along with RYO acetate cigarette filters (TOPS & Premier regular King, though anything works, including already-smoked filters for a pinch). Chinese (TarGard) kickoff filters -- washable brass inserts (pinholes for a swirling "Venturi effect" -- not an huge, by themselves, filtering effect). Where the interesting part comes in is the clear plastic mouthpiece -- on some models (not TarGard, incidently) there's enough room to insert a portion of the filter closest to the end, where it funnels down and is molded for putting into one's mouth.

Cons: Too much filter stuffed (including ramrodding) in there and it's blue-faced hard to draw with little if any taste. Cutting smaller lengths of filter for insertion -- make sure the cut end faces away from the mouth (don't want to potentially inhale fiber). It's only going to be good for a few cigarettes, four or five, I find -- then may as well wipe clean the brass and put in a fresh cut of acetate filter.

Pros: Pretty easy to make do anywhere. I use a straightened paperclip and carry a few extra filter inserts in my cigarette case. Tiny -- not as long and intrusive as are some makes.

What I'd additionally want -- a rotating shaft for (like Friend) varying a number of microholes to let air optionally in.

Overall, or way it is -- Get the right sized filter cut, and this is a very, extra nice and smooth smoke (for awhile, again they have to be changed every so often). Closest to ultralight I've found in RYO.

I have designed five different tubes all under the name 'Wolf cigarette tubes.' Please note that these are not what the final design will look like. These are examples, and I will have quite a bit more work to do on them.

I made a menthol light tube because there is a strange absence of those. So if these were to be really made, it would be the first menthol light tube. These would have porous paper with the menthol filter.
