Flavored cigs, things I probably shouldn't have done

Flavored tobaccos from Amaretto to Vanilla are becoming popular (and controversial), discuss them here.

Flavored cigs, things I probably shouldn't have done

Postby Paul Mohr on 28 Jun 2008, 00:16

Yeah, I tried a few crazy things that I probably shouldn't have, but I'll be darned if they didn't work.

Coffee, yep, believe it or not coffee. I figured this would really backfire but I mixed some coffee with some tobacco and lit it up. I really couldn't tell a difference but my girlfriend loved it. So I tried some Hazelnut coffee and she liked that too. I know, coffee is a bit expensive, but you don't need to put much in it.

The next thing I tried was tea. I had a bag of raspberry tea so I mixed some with a bit of tobacco and it actually tasted pretty good. I couldn't really tell while smoking it, but it had a real sweet after taste. I did some with green tea and Camomile but I didn't try those, I made them for the neighbor lady with menthol tobacco. I will find out how she liked them tomorrow.

And both the coffee and the tea cigarettes smelled great. And these were with ultra light teton tobacco in gambler light tubes.

If someone else is daring enough to try this let me know what you think.

Hi this is my first post here. I normally lurk, but felt compelled to respond. I'm always blending something :)

clove oil is my favorite thing to mix in. I smoked cloves before switching to RYO, and missed it dearly. Even boring tobacco is livened by a few drops of clove oil and some peach papers.

here are some other things i've tried.

Vanilla extract: smelled delicious, but didn't make much of a difference.

Peppermint extract: very strong. I don't like the spearmint-y menthol tobacco, so i thought i'd make my own with a mint that's more pleasing to me. it was fabulous, but i tired of it within a day or so.

Cherry-almond pipe tobacco: I actually prefer to smoke plain, unfiltered pipe tobacco rolled up than mixed with something. I have no idea why, but mixing it didn't work well for me.

Lavendar flowers: these were supposed to be for tea...but i mixed it with some bali red instead. It was really tasty, but made me sneeze a lot. I probably put way too much in. it was probably about 60% tobacco and 40% lavendar. I got overexcited.

tea (i think it was rose flavored black tea): too much tea, i think. It didn't burn well at all. It tasted pretty good, but the tea was probably to ground up and whatnot. I should have found larger cut tea. I imagine some chai or jasmine would be delicious in about an 85-90% tobacco mixture.

I'm a tea fanatic, so i don't have coffee lying around. If i did, i'd definitely try it. I was dying to try some djarum black tea/coffee cigs, but switched to rolling instead.

Anyway. thought i'd share my experiences since i've gotten so much from this board and never posted :D

Glad to see I'm not the only crazy one on here  . I tried the vanilla thing as well. I tried putting a few drops on the filter, then I mixed it with water in a sprayer and sprayed the tobacco down then let it dry. Tried the same thing with coffee yesterday. I think she smoked it last night but I forgot to ask her what she thought about it. I also tried mixing amaretto in water and spraying tobacco down with it. I couldn't tell a difference with any of them. It was just a waste of time an made a big mess in my kitchen :( .

With the tea I just pull out of enough tobacco to make one or two cigarettes then sprinkle a pinch or two of tea on top of it, then blend it a little, then put my hand over the the little container and shake it real good. Then I roll a few cigarettes. The tobacco is just moist enough that some of the tea sticks to it I think. I don't have a problem with it burning.

Like you I would really like to get my hands on some flavored tea that is long cut vrs ground up. I think that would work perfect.

As far as you using the peppermint or spearmint extract, I read that it works well if you use spearmint leaves instead. Maybe you should give that a try. I think you can get them in the spice isle at the grocery store. Now that I think about it, we have a health store in town, I bet they have long tea. HMMMMM. Probably cost more than favored tobacco though.

To get a decent flavor from pure vanilla extract, you will need about an ounce or more (the more the merrier....to an extent) per lb. First you mix the pure extract with 1/2 cup sugar per lb (or Splenda, if you're watching your figure ;) ). Micro till liquid, blend thoroughly into baccy. Spread sticky mixture onto a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven till slightly crispy at about 200 deg or less (about 15 minutes or till crispy and dry). You will then need to re-hydrate the baccy overnight using your favorite method. This works best with a straight Va baccy, imo.

Or just forget this mess and buy 2 lbs of Canoe Vanilla tobacco at LBSS for roughly the same cost.

*tobacco will still be somewhat sticky, so use caution when stuffing, best to run a few through then clean it out by alternating straight tobaccos.

Hey Dave, thanks for the Canoe suggestion. I didn't see that on their website at first. I looked it up and it's actually made by Wind River which is the same company that makes the Teton we like. So that is for sure worth a try.

I don't really want to order it though, I have this phobia about purchasing things over the internet and will not do it unless I absolutely have to. So I will check and see if I can get some locally, even if they have to order it for me. I see they have raspberry and that is Nikki's favorite flavor. I might get some of that, and the cherry and vanilla (my favorite).

When I get around to getting some I will let you guys know what I think of it. Might be a while though.

I got some Tops New York Vanilla and cherry the other day and it's not bad. You can hardly taste the vanilla though. I mixed them, let them dry out a little and then rehydrated the blend with some hot water mixed with vanilla rum and amaretto. Then stuffed in a full flavor tube. It was pretty smooth with a slight hint of cherry. I sort of liked it. Nikki hasn't tried it yet, she left for the weekend.

I bet you'll be surprised at how good Canoe is for the price, and they lay the Vanilla on pretty thick imo. For the price, it's a hard tobacco to beat, especially for a flavored blend as many of them cost twice what Canoe does. I think it's a much better smoke than the Wildfires and cheaper too.

The only flavoured tobacco I've really liked was the Wildfire Strawberry; I'll have one after dinner for a dessert smoke ... the taste (and the aroma) is out of this world.

When I was in Vegas I asked the clerk, Who buys the flavored tobaccos? He said that the women liked those.
Personally I though only hookers liked those. I know my mom sure does. :roflmao:

Alright you guys, what have you done to me? I got some of the Canoe English Vanilla and love the stuff. It is on my list to get more. I guess if slap can fess up to liking strawberry I can confess my love for the vanilla.

Dunno bout that first one, but whats wrong with strawberry and vanilla, one way to get your two a day and enjoy a little walk on the wild side. ;) My wife loves that stuff too, they really lay on the flavor in Canoe. She just got some of the peach and cherry which is just as potent. If thats your thing, I think Canoes the way to go, a lot of the flavored ones smell nice but with Canoe the taste comes through really well imo.

I still haven't got a hold of any canoe, the local guy said he might be able to get it if I give him the information, but I haven't been back in to let him know anything.

I have been smoking Pipe tobacco and simply love it. I went to a local little shop that sells magazines, cigars and other tobacco and he hand blends pipe tobacco and sells for 4 bucks in two ounce baggies. It is a major pain to stuff with my machine, I am working on a work around for that, but it tastes great. Much better than the Top crap. I a bag of Black Cordial and Vanilla right now.

I tried smoking a pipe but just couldn't do it, it was just too much of a pain and putting the tobacco in a tube tasted better to me any way.
